Michiko Koshino
Born and raised in Japan, Michiko Koshino has been working in the fashion industry since an early age following the steps of her mother. In the late 80s, after moving to London, she opened her first store in Covent Garden which rapidly established itself as a cardinal presence in the London clubbing scene. Michiko Koshino finds her greatest inspiration from the urban streets and club environments and her ground breaking use of new materials and media has guaranteed her an symbolic role in the decades that followed. Motorking, a men’s collection launched in 1987, is now considered a source of pride for any fashion collector. Michiko Koshino is undoubtedly a 90s icon and lots of her collectable items have been worn by well-known artists such as David Bowie. Her notorious inflatable jacket was recently celebrated by the V&A museum during an exhibition featuring the 80s clubbing culture. Today Michiko Koshino continues to experiment and explore new frontiers, today like yesterday, her collections bring together the best Japanese heritage with the outstanding “made in Italy’ quality lending itself to fashion, eclectic homeware and much more.
